What is a Blog?

We are often asked what is a blog and how can this help my business?

Terminology

  • A blogger is someone who blogs, or writes content for a blog.
  • Blogging is the act of writing a post for a blog.
  • A blog originally came from the word “weblog” or a “web log”.

Put simply a Blog is a website consisting of entries (called Posts).  These appear in reverse chronological order with the most recent entry appearing first (See example below from our own Blog). Typically a blog is updated frequently and regularly, although some people do this very occasionally. Blogs can have an area for people to comment or respond to the blog post. You can also include in the content links to other websites.

Blogs have an important role within the online community with popular bloggers impacting business and buying trends. As the Internet has become more social, blogs have gained in popularity. Today, there are millions of blogs with more entering everyday.

It would seem that blogging will become even more powerful in the future with more people and businesses recognizing the power of bloggers as online influencers.

Anyone can start a blog with readily available tools online (most being free). A blog can be what you make it, share content, updates, videos, pictures, add value to your user base and website today. The question should be, “Why don’t I have a blog”
