We have discussed Google Panda and Penguin as part of Google’s algorithm for ranking and sifting though all that content on the web to give search users a better experience, now lets touch on Hummingbird and what effect this will have for users.
Hummingbird is taking our search queries into a new direction.
Think about how we interact with Google. It has always been that we type our question into the search engine and hope that the search results will give us answers that we want i.e. The returned links should relate to the overall context of the query. What really happened was that the search was based on picking up keywords within the search query and often came back with links that didn’t necessarily hit the overall context of the query question. Not really that useful but we lived with it.
However, Hummingbird approaches this differently, In other words, Google has found a way to “smarten” search engines up enough to take a question and look at the context rather than seeing the words within the query as separate entities. Very smart!
So, what is Google Hummingbird?
- It is a new algorithm
- It approached searches in a new way
- It take a search engine query using long-tailed keywords and try’s to decipher the context of the question rather than chase the specific keywords within the question
- The goal is to actually answer the question
So, Google is becoming cleverer by the day, helping us with our search queries, by giving us better more relevant content, quickly!
